I dont know why I haven’t written anything in months. About 7 months to be precise. And every time I realised how much time was passing by and how quickly Hannah was changing and how much stuff I was missing out on writing down and keeping record of – the more it turned me off writing! But I’m back, who knows for how long…but I’m back with a backlog.
I can’t even remember what happened in September, October, November, December, January, February and March that I need to update….so I’ll start with the here and now. Hannah is nearly 20 months…the months thing is getting weird now, I prefer to say one & a half. She’s running around everywhere and little-miss-independent, wants to walk rather than be ferried around in her buggy, but doesnt want to hold your hand – and if she does, doesnt want to walk in the same direction you are – and if you try to make her, she’s on the floor having a stereotypical toddler tantrum. She’s chatting like mad and only in the past few days her mimicking skills have come in in leaps and bounds. She has loads of little words…Daddy & Mammy are loud and clear. Nannie is too, but poor Grandad is a non-runner for the moment. Her auntie Breda is Breeaa, auntie Karen is Dadn, Anthony is Annie and Alan is Adn. A drink is a ‘nun’ (?!) A spoon / knife / fork is a ‘babm’. ‘Doosh’ are her shoes and ‘deesh’ means keys / cheese / trees. Her new obsession is ‘durtdurts’, more commonly referred to as stickers.
And here she is today, eating her ‘poddy’ with her own babm!

well, the ladybaby was one year old on July 22nd. we stood by her cot at 11.39pm, staring at the beautiful baby before us & remembering that special moment at 11.39pm the previous year. Hard to remember what my life was like before she arrived on this planet!

so, she’s been a very busy baby since i last posted. she had 2 birthday parties, accompanied by 2 homebaked cakes, decorated in pink & lots of glitter by yours truly. She said her first real word (apart from mama, dada, baba, vava) on Saturday – shouting “dooeeeey!” at the dogs! On the same day she also stood by herself, letting go of whatever she was holding onto for two seconds, before falling on her bum, then three seconds, then almost ten seconds of wobbly balancing whilst clapping her hands to music! The baby is a genius! A child prodigy I tell you!!

Kinda glad the birthday season is over for a while though, all this cake eating has done the waistline no good…although practice makes perfect and with my showcase cakes I’ve been commissioned to do a few more for friends

She got TONS of pressies for her birthday, from clothes to toys, books to prize bonds, paddling pools to tricycles, money to cuddly sheep, but my fave present of all is her new plum tree, which should bear fruit next summer!

So, with all these new developments, the standing, the walking around the kitchen holding onto the presses, comes the new dangers e.g. opening the presses, finding bottle of pink food colouring used for icing her cake, managing to get the top off and try to drink it, spilling pink all over her body, hands, chin and mouth….and then screaming the house down when I tried to get her into an emergency bath to wash it all off. So she went to bed without a bath, with very pink hands and a pink hue to her face (managed to give her face a scrubbing!) and went off the minders with the pink hands! The whole ‘eyes in the back of your head’ thing is starting to take on a new meaning for me….

…24 little hours. so much can happen overnight. tiny helpless little baby starts to roll over. the private roller learns the ways of the scoochy-bum. the scoochy-bummer starts to crawl. the intrepid explorer gains a bigger sense of adventure and pulls herself to standing at the couch and grows more daring day by day, holding on with one hand, holding on with no hands, landing on her bum and clapping hands. she develops a fascination for the stairs, the mount everest of the baby-world and insists on trying to climb them, no matter how many times i grab her, whisk her away and plonk her on the floor in another part of the house – a few minutes later she’s back attempting to scale the first step and make it to base camp.

my tiny little baby is getting heavier by the day. the boxes of tiny baby clothes in the attic are getting fuller and the boxes of 12-18 months are emptying out. no more pureed vegetables, her favourite foods are cherry tomatoes, mushrooms and strawberries. she’s partial to spaghetti bolognese too – and tuscan chicken tagliatelle (tis far from meat & 3 veg she’ll be reared!) she loves to wave at the world and slap dogs on the back. she screams at the goats in the zoo. she whips her around to look out the back garden when you ask “where’s the crow?”

she’s going to be one tomorrow. imagine one whole year. 365 days. and this amazing little life who didn’t exist before, now such a big part of mine.

good for the soul…

when i got off the bus this morn there were two men in their 30′s across the road roaring at each other. i mean really roaring. one was shouting “it’s all your fault you fuckin bastard” and sobbing wildly. the other was retorting with “fuck you you stupid cunt.” as i walked on i could hear the shouts echoing on down the street. they didnt look like winos either, who are the usual shouty culprits in these parts.

then further down the road i walked past a little house, curtains still closed, with the roars of a mother from inside “get up those stairs or i’ll break your fuckin neck” and a little kid bawling crying.

my husband finished a job last week in a house where everyone constantly shouted and cursed at each other and the gorgeous 5 year old little girl in the family – “fuckin’ devil child” her grandmother roared at her. and they wonder why she’s so bold and hard to handle??

why cant people just talk to each other?

danger-baby is in da house. full on stealth-mode crawling, climbing, pulling, grabbing, scary danger-baby. a few days before we went to Malta for her auntie’s wedding, she had started to cover a bit more ground with her crawling, but once we got there and she got onto the hotel room’s carpetted floor – she was off – peggin’ it from one end of the room to the other, pulling the contents of the bin all over the floor, opening the mini bar and emptying it, opening the chest of drawers one by one and attempting to climb up the open drawers, swinging from the curtains, chewing electrical wires, squirting sun cream on the carpet – EEEEEEKKKKKKKK WHAT HAVE WE LET OURSELVES IN FOR?!?!

baby-proofing started the day we got home, we bought a big cage guard for the fire, have started moving ornaments up to higher shelves, washing the floors a few times a day but she is still filthy after 5 mins of crawling. the 1st morning home i forgot about how mobile she’d become and i left her for two mins in the livingroom while i made her toast. she was very quiet and i suddenly remembered danger-baby – so i rushed into the livingroom to find her practically swimming in beer – she’d pulled a half drank can from the night before off the coffee table and all over herself, she’s got a taste for the hard stuff early in life

the scooty-leg crawl is the funniest though – she keeps her right knee under her, like a normal crawling leg, but her left leg is kicked out to the side & she uses this heel to scoot herself along – so cute!

look at those eyelashes!!! i think i should send her photo to l’oreal, get them to ditch penelope cruz and hire little miss ladybaby. this photo is a few weeks old though, she now has 4 teeth on top and 2 on the bottom, so it’s goodbye toothless wonder, farewell my little gummy smiler and helllllooooo gnashtastic! she’s been verrrrrrry toothy all week & had a few cranky days with her minder, not like her at all to be a krankenpot. but back to her normal chirpy self this morning, singing like the dawn chorus at 7.15am. or as my friend said “like a little mermaid singing to the dolphins” she’s in town at the mo, shopping for a dress for a wedding her minder is going to next weekend. had her first trip on the bus with her too! i wonder if i’ll bump into them at lunchtime on henry street?

really wish i coulda been at home today. miss her babyship like cerrrazzzzzy. day 8 in work (not counting) & admittedly finding today kinda tough. i knew this week would be a hard one, last week was too surreal to really be “back-in-work”. i was still in denial. here in body but not in spirit. but this week i’m most definitely here, most definitely not-busy-enough, most definitely finding time-passing-waaaaay-too-slowly, most definitly dying to go home and pick up my little hannah and squeezing her until i hear a little baby grunt. the missing-her isnt helped by the fact that she had a bad day yesterday. when i collected her yesterday eve the childminder said she’d been cranky & crying alot of the day, totally not like her. she was rosy cheeked & grumpy and needed a good dose of calpol before she fell into a fitful and disturbed sleep. i texted earlier and was told she’s in much better form today but i just wanna see for myself.

come on mr. o’clock – be 5pm please. quickly!
